Carluccio's raises over £67,000 for Action Against Hunger
On 21st January 2008, Simon Kossoff, Managing Director of Carluccio’s, presented Paul Wilson, Chairman of Action Against Hunger with a cheque for £67,218.90.
Since September 2007, Carluccio’s and its customers have helped to raise this impressive amount which is enough to save the lives of nearly 2,500 severely malnourished children through the provision of Action Against Hunger’s survival kits.
£18,000 was raised by a charity auction, held at the launch party for Carluccio’s flagship caffè, deli and food shop on Garrick Street, Covent Garden in September. The impressive balance was generated by the donation of 50p from each sale of Carluccio’s most popular dish penne giardiniera - Pugliese penne with courgette, chilli and deep fried spinach balls with Parmesan and garlic. In this way, Carluccio’s and its customers have helped to raise over £49,000 since the start of the charity’s Restaurant Against Hunger campaign in October.
Handing over the cheque at Carluccio’s flagship, Simon Kossoff said:
“It is very easy, when we have come to regard eating out as part of our daily lives, to forget that vast numbers of people do not experience adequate nutrition as a basic right. If our work with Action Against Hunger makes a real financial contribution and raises awareness, everyone at Carluccio’s will be delighted.”
In response, Paul Wilson remarked:
“We are extremely grateful to Carluccio’s for their incredible support of Action Against Hunger. Carluccio’s generous contribution will have a real and tangible effect on our relief work, helping us save the lives of malnourished children in places like Darfur and Bangladesh.”
