Restaurants Against Hunger stand - ‘Gourmet Garden Party’!

"Restaurants Against Hunger" created a "Gourmet Garden Party" theme for their stand at this year’s Taste of London and worked with some of the countries top-name Chefs and Food Critics to produce gourmet cakes, which were sold at the stand to raise money for the charity.  Along with these highly-prized cakes, there were also artisan-produced ice cream, courtesy of ‘Oddono’s Gelateria’, ‘Taittinger’ Champagne, ‘Penfolds’ wine, as well as strawberries and various other exciting goodies available throughout the event.  In addition, the Chefs and Critics gathered together on the opening day of the event for the ULTIMATE cake-judging contest!  A great chance to see Chefs versus Critics in a competitive Chocolate cake bake-off!

"Restaurants Against Hunger" could also be found at this year’s ‘Shop & Drop’ facility, where they were given the task of taking care of all your foodie-goodies safe whilst welcoming donations in exchange for their safe-keeping!

Thank you to everyone who came by the ‘Restaurants Against Hunger’ stand!

It was billed the hottest fight of the summer with some of the biggest names in food entering the ring and it was all taking place for charity at this year’s annual Taste of London festival in Regents Park.

Restaurants Against Hunger is an international initiative organised by humanitarian organisation, Action Against Hunger, that raises vital funds to help families living in the world’s poorest countries. To mark the opening of their quintessentially British cake and champagne stand, the ‘Gourmet Garden Party,’ some of London’s best chefs and the country’s top food critics went head to head in a charity match, competing for the coveted title of ‘Best Chocolate Cake’.

In the white corner, stepping into the ring on opening night of this four-day foodie extravaganza, are ‘the contenders’ - chefs including Giorgio Locatelli, Michel Roux Jr, Pascal Aussignac and Antonio Carluccio.  These heavyweights of London’s restaurant scene took on ‘the challengers’ - critics such as Tom Parker Bowles, Jeremy Wayne and Charles Campion, all whom put aside pens for wooden spoons and a worthy cause.  The third ‘man’ in the ring is Prue Leith judging this fiercely contested cake contest.  Pascal Aussignac won the competition with a delicious french recipe!

In addition to the competition, a whole host of celebrity chefs and critics contributed cake recipes for Restaurants Against Hunger’s Gourmet Garden Party. Professionally made by Meg Rivers artisan bakery, choose from tempting teatime treats such as Antonio Carluccio’s Chocolate and Hazelnut cake; Charles Campion’s Syrup Cake, Fay Maschler’s Richest Chocolate Brownies Ever Known to Man and Tom Parker Bowles; Oxford Spiced Cake.  Visitors to the stand were also able to indulge in a glass of fizz, courtesy of champagne Taittinger and deliciously authentic Italian ice cream from Oddono’s gelateria in Kensington.

All sales from the ‘Gourmet Garden Party’ went straight to Action Against Hunger, a humanitarian organisation committed to fighting hunger and malnutrition, with programmes in some 43 countries worldwide. This year's cake stand raised over £6,000 for the charity. Thank you very much to those you came by our stand and indulged with some fabulous cakes!

Restaurants Against Hunger thanks Meg Rivers Bakery, Oddono’s ice cream, champagne Taittinger, Prue Leith and all the chefs and critics for their support.
